Asks people to participate in the meeting to pay tributes to Gowhar
Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Monday called for condolence meet at Zainakote on November 11 to express solidarity with the family of Gowhar Ahmad Dar, who was killed by paramilitary CRPF men on Saturday.“We have called for condolence meeting at Mustafabad, Zainakote on November 11 (Wednesday) to express our heartfelt condolences to Gowhar’s family,” Geelani told.
22- year old Gowhar Ahmad Dar of Mustafabad Zainakote, an engineering student of SSM College, was killed after being hit by a teargas shell fired by paramilitary CRPF men to disperse peaceful protesters at Zainakote on Saturday evening.
Gowhar’s killing was widely condemned and Valley observed complete shutdown on Sunday against Gowhar’s killing.
Geelani appealed people to participate in the condolence meeting on Wednesday. “In the meeting we will resolve to protect the sacrifices of the martyrs. We will pledge not to let anyone play with the blood of our martyrs”.
He said “sacrifices” of the martyrs would be taken to its logical conclusion.
The Zainakote area observed complete shutdown for the third consecutive day today to protest against the killing of Gowhar.
Geelani demanded release of all separatist leaders and activists detained ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Valley.
Hundreds of Hurriyat leaders and activists including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabir Shah, Aga Syed Hassan, Nayeem Khan, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Imtiyaz Haider have either been detained or placed under house arrest by the authorities.
Geelani termed their detention as “undemocratic and unlawful” and demanded their immediate and unconditional release.
“Police have no legal recourse to arrest these leaders and activists” he said.
